MISSION VOLUNTEERS

GENERAL INFORMATION

Maryknoll Mission Volunteers is a Roman Catholic program sponsored by the Maryknoll Fathers & Brothers which aims to insert volunteers into different cultures around the world to work among the poor and excluded.

Volunteers are missioned overseas for periods of 2 months to a year.
Our volunteers range in age from 21 to 65 years old.

Because Maryknoll is a faith mission organization, all volunteers must raise their own support for their stay overseas and pay for their room and board. Housing may be provided at a particular mission.  However, arrangements can be made for lodging with a family or at an inexpensive hotel.

Volunteering in a third world country requires a person to be flexible.  There might be days without electricity and water.  Volunteers may be required to do a variety of different jobs.

If you are interested in volunteering with Maryknoll, please contact Ms. Maretta McKenna to request more information about how to become a volunteer and what to expect during your volunteer experience.

Age Requirement: The minimum age for Maryknoll Mission Volunteers is 21 years old.  The maximum age is 65 years old.

Room and Board: The volunteer is required to provide for his/her own room and board.  It is suggested that each participant look for funding from friends, local parish, or other donors.

Inoculations:  Since different countries have different physical environments, Maryknoll recommends that Volunteers consult their own physicians regarding inoculations.

Medical Insurance: If you need health insurance, please go to the following website: www.missionaryhealth.com.  Open the site and then follow these steps:
1. Under featured Plans (on right margin) select: Click here for a quote.
2. Fill in data required (not including travel in US).  Receive a quote.
3. Select plan and fill in data.

Passport and Visas:  A passport will be needed for travel outside of the USA.  Visa requirements depend on the mission country.  Volunteers should consult with the consulate of the country where they will work.

Travel Arrangements: Volunteers should make their own travel arrangements to and from the mission site.  Ticket prices can be searched on the internet.  A comprehensive site is: www.kayak.com.
